    Every feature starts with a learner or a teacher, not a model. Pedagogy leads, AI delivers.

  • Ship and learn

    Small teams, short cycles, real feedback from the learners and teachers who use Carna every day. We build, measure, and adjust.

  • Depth over hype

    Full A1 to C2, eight scored skills, and speaking and writing marked with a CEFR level. We'd rather be right than loud.

  • Two countries, one team

    We work across the UK and Turkey, async-friendly and outcome-focused.

  1. AI suggests

    The engine marks everything with an answer key on submission, and drafts a mark, a CEFR level and its reasons for speaking and writing.

  2. A teacher decides

    No suggested mark reaches a learner until a teacher accepts or changes it, and the report shows when one was changed.

Every feature we ship has to hold that line. It is the most interesting constraint in the product.

Software Engineer — Full Stack

Build and scale the platform behind Carna's family of AI English products — the personal tutor, the school and business platforms, and the assessment engine.

What you'll do and what we look for

What you'll do

  • Develop and scale our suite of applications — web, admin, and mobile
  • Build and maintain the backend APIs behind every Carna product
  • Implement authentication, organizations, and access control
  • Integrate AI models from several providers into production features
  • Build real-time features with WebSockets and Server-Sent Events
  • Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, and message queues
  • Deploy and monitor on AWS
  • Collaborate with educators, designers, and engineers across the team

What we look for

  • Strong TypeScript experience across the stack
  • Frontend: React and a modern TypeScript stack
  • Backend: typed APIs on Node or Bun
  • Database: PostgreSQL and a typed ORM
  • AI: experience building on LLM APIs from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google
  • AWS deployment and Docker
  • Self-motivated, takes ownership, and cares about teaching

Product Designer

What you'll do and what we look for

What you'll do

  • Define and maintain the core interaction model for our products
  • Understand learner and teacher contexts and ship tested design solutions
  • Build and maintain designs in Figma
  • Work closely with engineers and educators from first sketch to shipped feature

What we look for

  • An eye for polish and clear, striking visual design
  • A portfolio showing interaction design expertise
  • Experience shipping real products to users
  • The ability to explore, define, and use interaction models
  • Comfortable working quickly and scrappily as well as at polished, production fidelity
