IN SHORT
Is there a free app to learn English?
Yes. Many English apps can be used without paying, usually up to a limit. Carna is not one of them yet: the Carna app will open with a free plan, and it is in early access now, so nobody can use it yet. Joining the early-access list is free, and we will tell you what the paid plans cost before you pay for anything.
THE APP
What will you do in Carna?
Learn on a plan made for you, the way a private tutor would plan it. Carna finds your level, then builds your lessons around your goal and the time you have. This is the app itself, which is in early access. It is not a list of what will be free: that has not been announced yet.
- Where you are on the CEFR scale, and what comes next
- Every stop, a thing you will be able to do in English
- Your level measured again after every lesson

OTHER APPS
What does “free” mean in English apps?
Rarely the whole app. Most often it is a free tier with limits: you can keep using the app, up to a point. Sometimes it is a trial: everything is open for a short while, then you pay. And sometimes an app costs nothing only for a while, until its terms change. Our comparison lists what each AI English tutor gives you free, and the date we checked.
