What the tutor will practise
- Academic essays
- Lecture listening
- Campus conversation
What runs today Carna for Schools and Carna for Business, on the same engine. The individual tutor is in early access.
— THE PROBLEM, THE PRACTICE
What gets in the way, and the practice for it.
Three things that stop people at this goal, each beside the practice planned to remove it. Each row says whether it runs today or waits for the tutor's early access.
-
Academic English is a different register from conversational English, and most students only realise this when the first essay comes back with a poor grade.
Academic writing preparation
The tutor will practise essay structure, academic vocabulary and citation-ready phrasing, with feedback on coherence and the formal register universities expect.
Academic essays Early access
-
Following fast-paced lectures and seminars requires listening skills that conversation apps do not develop.
Lecture listening skills
Listening practice will build the inference and note-taking to follow a lecture at speed, catch what is implied, and tell the main point from the detail.
Lecture listening Early access

Campus life requires confidence in unscripted English — dormitory, cafeteria, group projects — not just classroom vocabulary.
Campus life confidence
The tutor will practise unscripted conversations — group projects, office hours, meeting flatmates — so social English feels natural, not rehearsed.

Running in schools today
Every task on the record.
- Every course, with its score
- Its attempts, and whether it was handed in
- Late work, marked Late
Carna for Schools runs on the same engine today. One student's report shows every course with its attempts, what was handed in and what came in late, and the speaking and writing practice counted. University preparatory programmes and language schools can book a demo now.
One student's report, course by course: each course's score and attempts, whether it was handed in, and the piece that came in late. Carna School London is a sample school; the names, scores and dates are demo data.
FAQ
Common questions.
Straight answers, including what the individual tutor can and cannot do yet.
What level do I need before studying at an English-speaking university?
Requirements vary by university and course, so check the one you are applying to; many state an IELTS band or a CEFR level around B2 or C1. The tutor will score speaking and writing on the CEFR scale with an estimated IELTS band, so you can see the distance to that target.
Will Carna help with IELTS or TOEFL as part of study abroad preparation?
Yes. IELTS and TOEFL preparation sit on the same engine and the same early-access list; the exam pages say what each one will practise and how it is scored.
How early before departure should I start?
Earlier than you think if you're below B2: academic writing and lecture listening take time to build, and Carna makes no promise about how long. The level pages say roughly how far each level is, so you can plan the months you have.
EARLY ACCESS
First in line when it opens.
Carna's personal tutor will cover all eight skills from A1 to C2, and it is not open to individual learners yet. The early-access list is how you get in first: one quiet email when it opens, no drip campaign.
